Apples, Pumpkins & Wine...Oh, my!

The summer has been beautiful and we know it's hard to think about colorful leaves falling, apple and pumpkin picking and harvest time, but now is the time to plan. There may be temps in the 90s now, but before we know it, we will be breaking out our sweaters.

The North Fork is absolutely gorgeous in September and October. September begins apple picking and grape harvest at the vineyards. It's always a preferred weather season with dry, sunny days and cool breezes coming through the Inn's windows in the evening. October brings pumpkins, colors and fall flavors, along with a nostalgic chill in the air. We love each month for its characteristics and recommend a visit during either of them.

Even now, during a time of caution and social distancing, our local farms and wineries are doing a wonderful job of making provisions for customers. We definitely recommend searching where you would like to go and making advanced reservations! Scroll to see some of the views and highlights from the North Fork, in close proximity to the Inn at Harbor Knoll.

We encourage you to book now while we still have availability for the season. We are open for reservations through November 1, 2020. Book your stay today!

Harbor Knoll is located on the waterfront in the Village of Greenport on Long Island's East End on the North Fork. We invite you to experience the beauty of our unique inn, featuring a private, exclusive beach. Enjoy the North Fork region, with plenty of things to do all year long. Tour Long Island Wine Country, visit one of the many local farms; stroll through shops and galleries; or enjoy a restaurant to suit your appetite and style. We hope you will explore more about the Inn at Harbor Knoll on our website and please reach out with any questions.

Kontokosta's Wine Tasting Room in Greenport is welcoming guests throughout the week by reservation. This place has fantastic views and great wine!

Pumpkin picking is available at many farm stands and fields across the North Fork. Plan for a day of hiking through the fields, enjoying roasted corn and bringing home pies or other delicious local goods.

June in Greenport Village

Welcome back! We are thrilled to say those words after a few long months of closing our doors. Now, we are ready to host new and loyal visitors once again at the Inn and can't wait to see you!

June has brought about about many new things already. Not only have we re-opened our guestrooms, but our surrounding community as re-opened as well. Just this week, outdoor dining was added to the options at our favorite dining hot spots in Greenport Village. So, in addition to delicious, gourmet takeout, we can dine in a socially-distant setting outdoors at select restaurants such as Noah's on Front Street and Claudio's on Main Street on the Harbor.

Both have announced their outdoor dining beginning June 10th on Facebook and we are so excited. Claudio's Waterfront calls it 'Dining in Distance.' Perfect! Of course, if your favorite food is still only available for to-go, you can enjoy it picnic style with a view in Mitchell Park.

In addition to dining, local wineries are opening for outdoor sipping as well. On the North Fork, strawberry season has begun. We look forward to fresh Long Island grown strawberries each year. You can stop at a farm stand to grab yours or pick your own. Click here for northforker's guide to local strawberries.

We know that many of you are eager to have a getaway and wanted you to know that Harbor Knoll, with its expansive grounds, can provide the space you need both inside and outside. Below is a list of amenities included with your stay at Harbor Knoll.

A message from the owners of The Inn at Harbor Knoll

As we await the official green light for the opening of hospitality accommodations on the North Fork, we are taking steps to ensure your safety as well as ours during this difficult period.

With a maximum of 10 guests in 5 bedrooms, it is easier for us to manage safety procedures than in some larger establishments.  I know that many of you have been cooped up for far too long and are eager to have a getaway and wanted you to know that Harbor Knoll, with its expansive grounds, can provide the space you need both inside and outside.

We are spacing our Adirondack chairs on the front lawn overlooking the water in groups of two with plenty of space in between.  Likewise, on the beach, there will be a number of beach chairs.   As usual each room will be equipped with a basket containing beach towels, small water bottles and suntan lotion to enable you to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible.

The first guest space to open will be The Cottage. With its private entrance, private garden area, separate living room, screened porch bedroom with a king size bed and shower as well as a kitchenette, it is possible to stay there without coming into contact with the owners or other guests.  All areas of the house are being disinfected and sanitized on a regular basis.

We are staggering breakfast so no more than two couples will have breakfast at the same time in the sunroom or on the porch to provide ample spacing.  Breakfast will be set out for each couple, rather than sharing a buffet as before.  Specific check-in times will be arranged for each room and guests will be required to wear masks on arrival and sign a statement indicating that to the best of their knowledge they are not infected with COVID-19 and have not been in contact with someone who has or had the virus.

For Happy Hour on the porches or outside, we will ensure adequate space for couples and provide individual bottles of wine and snacks.

There are a number of restaurants in Greenport Village, within easy walking distance that have or are opening up to provide indoor/outdoor dining options.  Several stores and boutiques are also opening up and the Village plans to increase outdoor space for pedestrians.

The LIRR and the Hampton Jitney are providing transport from New York City for those who do not wish to come by car.  The ferry to and from Shelter Island is operating as well as several boat and bike rentals.  Parks are available nearby for scenic walks in nature.

So, come and join us for a weekend or longer and give yourself a well-earned vacation!
